Vehicle servicing is one of the most significant routinely service that must be done on a vehicle to maintain the strength and longevity of the vehicle. Friction generates heat and heat increases rust which overtime will destroy the engine and the only solution to this is the presence of engine oil which lubricates the engine and reduces friction drastically.
How Does The Engine Oil Lubricates The Engine?
This process is called the Engine Lubrication System. This system focuses on the moving parts of the engine and distributes oil along the oil layers through the help of different components from oil pump to oil filter to reduce friction while the vehicle is working. While the vehicle is switched off, the oil is stored in a compartment called the oil sump. The oil sump has a drain plug underneath where the oil can be let out of the vehicle during an oil change.
Oil Filter
The Oil Filter is cylindrical in shape and according to it’s name, the function of the oil filter is to help remove contaminants in the oil before the oil rotates through the engine. Clean filtered engine oil is important because if the oil were left unfiltered for a period of time, it could become encompassed with particles that can wear surfaces in your engine thereby reducing the efficiency of the engine.
How often do you need to change your engine oil?
For an operational vehicle that works daily, standard travel distance before an oil change would be required is 5000km. Once the vehicle total kilometers travelled is over 200,000kms, you can change servicing to 3000-4000Km. However, for vehicles who seldomly moves, probably twice a week, oil change might take longer.
There are different grades of engine oil and while some are good for a type of vehicle, others might be well suited for other vehicles. Choose the best grades of oil that is best for your vehicle; I wrote extensively on the best type of engine oils you need.
